Hoje a Câmara dos Deputados criou um novo imposto. Adivinha sobre o que? Munições? Não. Cigarros? Não. Madeira da floresta Amazônica? Não. Pasmem, sobre os LIVROS! É o chamado "Imposto do Livro", 1% sobre o preço dos livros, divididos entre os editores (0,33%), os distribuidores (0,33%) e livrarias (0,33%).
A expectativa é arrecadar cerca de 40 bilhões de reais, esse dinheiro iria para um fundo que visa fomentar novos leitores e autores.
A venda de livros está diminuindo no Brasil, em 1999, as livrarias venderam um total de 225 milhões de livros, em 2007, apenas 200 milhões.
Segundo o Governo brasileiro, a indústria livreira já havia sido
desonerada em 2004, com uma isenção de impostos de cerca de 10%, mas, na opinião do governo, esta isenção não baixou o preço dos livros. Será que os livros vão ficar mais baratos agora?

Today the House of Representatives created a new tax. Guess on what? Ammunition? No. Cigarettes? No. Wood from the Amazon forest? No. On BOOKS! It is called the “Book Tax”, 1% on the price of books, divided among the editors (0.33%), the distributors (0.33%) and the bookstores (0.33%).
The expectation is to collect about 40 billion BRL (21.4 billion
USD), this money will go to a fund that aims helping new readers and authors. The book business is slowing down in Brazil, in 1999 the bookstores sold
225 million books, in 2007 only 200 million.
According to the Brazilian Government, the book business had been exempted from
part of the taxes in 2004, it was about 10% less, but this exemption did not lower the price of books, in the Government’s opinion. Will books get cheaper now?
